Day 8: Church
Day 8
Today started pretty slow. We had family in town and decided to go to the 11 a.m. service instead of our normal 9:30 a.m. service. I had a lovely talk about America with my mother-in-law, chatting about a preacher/podcaster that we both listen to and about the donkeys near our neighborhood that screech every once in a while. One thing is certain, we love America and we love Jesus.
I built an automation in ChatGPT with a little bit of time that I had while the house was getting ready for church. This agent automation will read these posts that I’m making, develop its own perspective, then rewrite my post. It will clearly indicate that the post is AI generated. I thought it would be cool to see two perspectives on the same content. If anything, it will serve as a learning exercise of what reasoning can do with human-authored content. It will use ChatGPT 5.6 Sol with light reasoning. Before publishing the post, I will review the content to ensure it is safe and still relevant in some sense. It will start with Day 7 and go forward from there, but I may run it on my older posts too. This will be in the new AI Posts section.
My Codewars journey continued as well. I’m having a lot of fun thinking about basic problems and using basic Ruby to write solutions for them. It’s a great reminder of how much Rails gives you out-of-the-box and what isn’t included in Ruby. Unrelated but semi-in-context, I wrote a method to split a string of characters into an array of characters because I forgot some_string.split('') did the same darn thing.
That was interesting, actually (sorry, bit of a tangent); in my effort to “just get going on the problem” I didn’t spend time reading some more documentation on a few methods on the String class which would have led me to the simple fix. Anyways, that method took me a minute or so to write, so that wasn’t really an issue in the grand scheme of things. Just a continued reminder to spend your time intentionally when building software.
Church was awesome. We were studying the Lord’s Prayer:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Read the Bible, folks! Pray to God. Welcome Him and He will change your life for the better.
Our Church put on a “diaper shower” for us, which was such a full-circle moment. We have prayed for a long time for a Church where we were connected and held accountable. Where folks noticed when we were gone. God gave us that and we cherish it.
Last on the list for the day was a Psalms leadership class that is training a few men from church to teach the Word—we’re starting with Psalms. I couldn’t be more excited about learning the Bible with a focus on teaching it to others.
